+ what works
- +Works fully offline once map regions are downloaded
- +Both Android and iOS clients are GPLv3 with public source
- +Community build OsmAnd~ on F-Droid is unrestricted and Google-services-free
- +OpenStreetMap data refreshed monthly, hourly with OsmAnd Live on Pro
− watch out for
- −Free tier caps map downloads (7 on Android, 5 on iOS) before you must pay
- −Pricing model is fragmented across platforms, with different tiers and prices on Android, iOS, and web
- −UI density is high and the learning curve is steeper than mainstream map apps
- −Search and POI quality depends on OpenStreetMap coverage in your area
# PRIVACY NOTES
Maps and routing run on-device against vector tiles you download in advance, so day-to-day use does not stream your location to a server. The app does not collect personal data beyond what you opt into (OsmAnd Cloud sync, crash reports). Payments on the website are processed by FastSpring, which may transfer billing data to the US under SCCs. OsmAnd B.V. is registered in Amstelveen, Netherlands, so EU privacy law applies.
