# PRIVACY NOTES
Mailbox.org is operated by Heinlein Support GmbH in Berlin and runs on its own infrastructure in redundant Berlin data centres, under German and EU data protection law. Mail is stored server-side in plaintext by default; users can opt in to an encrypted mailbox that re-encrypts incoming mail to their PGP key on arrival, after which the operator can no longer read message bodies. Webmail PGP and S/MIME integration is offered via OX Guard. Mailbox.org publishes annual transparency reports going back to 2013 and states that a data protection officer and lawyer review every authority request.
